While I was journeying back to NUIG campus to fetch Mad Jack, I got lost. Don't tell anyone. It happens to even the best Captains. But hey, I found this:
It has a picket fence... that makes it suburban right? |
So a few random thoughts over the last week or so.
Rain:
When it begins to rain, it's like ghost's feet. Little circles patting down and darkening the concrete. You don't see what causes the mark; it just appears.
That's when it happens lightly while sitting outside as Mad Jack checks his schedule.
It's really cold and like little daggers when it's coming down hard though. The first time Mad Jack and I had to walk back home from the college, there was a mini-deluge and I was unprepared for it. Now, my poncho never leaves my bag.
In the week we've been here it's rained 6 times. I'm no longer counting.
Jobs:
9-4
Well, here's a disappointment. The receptionist job I really wanted I got a call for. Why is that a disappointment? It's an hour away. So waste of time for her and me, which is a shame, because out of loneliness I'm getting a lot more talkative with strangers. We had a great conversation about Neil Gaiman.
9-5
Had an interview. I am officially an illegal immigrant. The interview was going great until he realized I didn't have what is called a PPS, basically Ireland's ssn. I was so embarrassed; it hadn't occurred to me that this would happen. At least not on the 30 minute walk to the job site today. It's occurred to me before, but things have been going so well, I just kind of assumed all the stuff I read online about work permits would happen when I got the job (this happens for doctors and business executives and such that are hired and move to Ireland specifically to work. Get the job. Get the permit.)
9-6
Additional disappointment with jobs: today, I since my foot feels like it's been run over by a truck, I figured I'd stay in and call the pps office and guards immigration. So, I did that and found out I have to go in (duh) with all my ids and stuff. Including a letter of residence. Not a surprise or a disappointment, yet. I'm going in tomorrow, first thing. The disappointment comes because I got a friggen job offer and it went away when I told then my pps number was still being processed. It was for a bar and cafe' that I really wanted to work at too. So huge bummer. I'm hoping the number goes through like same day and I can call him back and start up there.
Whatever, there's plenty of jobs for those willing to work in food service and receptionist. I found more in the Galway Advertiser today and I'm sure as soon as I get the right to work here, I'll get the perfect job.
Today:
I walked 30 minutes to campus. Then 15 minutes to the ppsn office, to find out that I had to have legal status first. So I walked 40 minutes to that office. Only to find out that there is pretty much no way I can work legally in Ireland. There are avenues that Mad Jack and I are investigating, but if nothing pans out... it's under the table I go. Which is fine, I guess. I would rather be legal, but if Ireland doesn't want me to help their economy, fuck them.
Also, my year turned into 3 months without a job. So I'll be back in the states for Thanksgiving. Hopefully, I'll get to visit my family at Christmas and stuff and then be able to go right back to Ireland. If there's a time period I have to wait before returning... I'll find something to do in the states to make money and live cheap somewhere. Maybe go back to T-Town and work for my aunt's temp agency. That's like from heaven to hell. lol.
Anyways, that's all in the future and Future Capt. can worry about it.
It's time for Sims.
Oh wait... here's something else: my day was so shitty, I saw a swan and it was either:
a) feeding.
b) trying to drown itself.
c) giving itself a blow job.
I'm not sure if that makes my day better or worse...
Suicial or enjoying himself |
Lisa, thankx so much for doing this blog!! I realized (only today) that you had written many more than just the first one, but I had to go all the way down the page to find the small button that said "newer post." Sorry I'm an idiot.
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying reading about the adventures of the Captain and Mad Jack. Thanks for keeping us posted. Also, that swan is doing naughty things under the water. :)
